I started teaching Japanese about 9 years ago. As my friend introduced me Language school, I had an interview.

I had some experience to teach Japanese to HK people in private base at that time. So I decided to have an interview there.

Lack of experience was not matter when I had an interview in that school. The manager of HR accepted me because I had about 10 years experience teaching swimming in Japanese school. Besides my English ability was enough to teach Japanese to English speaking students. That was the minimum requirement to work in that school.

I started my career in that school soon after the interview and I am still working there as a part time tutor.

I taught so many students for these 9 years. Many of them learned basic Japanese and talkative students started talking very quickly. Some students introduced their friends and family to me and I gradually got my own private students. And of course I could learn teaching skills from them and understand tricky Japanese grammars that I would never have realized unless I teach Japanese.

Most interesting part of teaching language is that I can arrange each class to adjust to student's aim and character. Mostly I use some textbooks for HK people because they can understand the meaning of kanjis. But I have to arrange the teaching materials if the students are Westerners or HK people who didn't have HK education. It's very challenging to change the teaching style depending on each student. But I already got used to teaching any students and I can know which way I should use when I first meet a new student.

I found one fact after teaching many years. That is pronunciation issue. That is always my issue how correctly I can teach Japanese pronunciation to every student. Most HK people can't correctly pronounce Japanese whereas Western expats and HK people who had education in English school can pronounce properly. It's very interesting for me.

Anyway I have to improve my teaching method in many ways to achieve good results.

To create effective working sheets, I need a variety of students with diversity of backgrounds and cultures.
